Questions, answered
Will my existing MS-1 alarms interlink with MS-1 Interlink?
No. Interlink works between MS-1 Interlink units only, and regular MS-1 alarms cannot join an Interlink group. Both models can still live side by side in the same app and the same Thread network.
How many alarms can interlink, and across what range?
Interlink runs on your home Thread network. Every MS-1 Interlink connected to the same network joins automatically, with no pairing between units and no automation rules to set up. Coverage follows your Thread mesh, which grows with each connected device.
Do I need a hub?
For smart features and Interlink, yes: any Matter-compatible Thread hub works, such as a HomePod, Apple TV, or SmartThings Hub. Without a hub, each alarm still works as a standalone smoke alarm with the full 85 dB siren.
Which smart-home ecosystems does it work with?
Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey, through any Matter-compatible Thread hub. Pairing takes one QR-code scan in the app of your choice.
What happens when one alarm detects smoke?
The detecting unit sounds its 85 dB siren and flashes red, your phone gets a notification through your hub, and every other MS-1 Interlink on the network sounds as well. Silencing an echoing alarm does not silence the source, so always locate the alarm that triggered first.
Can I turn Interlink off?
Yes. Pressing the rear Interlink button three times toggles it for the current runtime, and it returns to on after a restart. Interlink is enabled by default out of the box.
