MSC-1 uses a dedicated electrochemical sensor designed to measure carbon monoxide with precision and stability over time. Inside the sensing chamber, CO molecules react with the sensor electrodes, creating a small electrical signal that directly corresponds to the CO concentration in the air.

This signal is processed, temperature-compensated, and converted into an exact ppm reading, displayed on MSC-1 built-in LCD and in your Matter-connected smart home apps.

When CO levels rise, MSC-1 provides clear alerts, distinct LED and audio warnings, and real-time visibility - giving you immediate awareness before conditions become harmful.

MSC-1 uses the same proven photoelectric infrared scattering technology adopted in MS-1. Inside the sensing chamber, a narrow beam of infrared light is projected across a dark, maze-structured space. When smoke particles enter, they scatter the light toward a receiving diode, producing a signal that corresponds to the amount of smoke in the air.

Which smart home platforms does MSC-1 support, and can I use it with more than one ecosystem?

MSC-1 uses Matter-over-Thread and is designed to work with compatible smart home ecosystems that support the Matter Smoke/CO Alarm device type. It is not limited to the platforms shown in the “Works with” section.

Common compatible ecosystems include:

A compatible Matter Controller with Thread Border Router functionality is required for smart features.

If your smart home ecosystems support Matter Multi-Admin, MSC-1 may also be shared with more than one compatible ecosystem.

Different platforms may provide different levels of support for smoke status, CO status, CO concentration, battery information, self-test, notifications, and automations.
Will MSC-1 still work without a hub, Wi-Fi, or internet access?

Yes.

MSC-1’s core smoke detection, carbon monoxide detection, LCD display, and local audible and visual alarms do not depend on internet access.

MSC-1 communicates through Thread. A Matter Controller or Thread Border Router may use Wi-Fi or Ethernet to communicate with your smart home ecosystem.

Without a compatible smart home hub, MSC-1 can still operate as a standalone smoke and CO alarm.

If only the internet connection is unavailable:

• Smoke detection will continue to operate.
• CO detection will continue to operate.
• The LCD will continue to operate.
• Local alarms will continue to operate.

Remote app notifications, remote status information, and other connected features may be affected.
Why does my MSC-1 LCD display “0000”? Is this normal?

Yes. This is normal.

The “0000” shown on the MSC-1 LCD means that the current detected carbon monoxide concentration is 0 ppm.

Under normal conditions, carbon monoxide should not be present in the surrounding air, so a reading of “0000” does not indicate an LCD or CO sensor fault.

The battery icon in the upper-right corner of the LCD shows the current battery status.

To further confirm that the alarm is operating normally, press the Test/Hush button to perform a self-test.

During a normal self-test:

• The alarm will sound.
• The red alarm LED will flash.

If the device does not produce any sound or light indication during the self-test, please contact Sensereo Support.
Can I silence MSC-1 remotely through an app?

No.

MSC-1 does not support remote alarm silencing through a smart home app.

EN 50291-1:2018 places specific safety restrictions on the alarm silence function for carbon monoxide alarms. For example, the alarm cannot be silenced when the carbon monoxide concentration remains at or above 300 ppm, and remote silencing is subject to additional safety conditions.

For this reason, MSC-1 currently requires the alarm to be silenced locally using the Test/Hush button on the device.

Only use the Hush function after confirming that there is no actual fire or dangerous carbon monoxide condition.

MSC-1 cannot be silenced when the CO concentration is at or above 300 ppm.
Can I trigger an MSC-1 self-test remotely?

Yes, if your smart home ecosystem supports remote self-test for Matter Smoke/CO Alarms.

If the ecosystem provides a Self-Test control, you can trigger the MSC-1 self-test remotely through the corresponding smart home platform.

Support varies by ecosystem:

• Some platforms may provide a remote Self-Test control.
• Some may only display test events.
• Some may not currently provide a self-test control.

The physical Test/Hush button on the device can always be used for a local self-test.
Why does the MSC-1 green standby LED flash every 60 seconds, and can I turn it off?

During normal standby operation, the green LED flashes approximately once every 60 seconds.

This is normal and the standby indicator cannot be completely disabled.

MSC-1 is designed to comply with EN 50291-1:2018 requirements for carbon monoxide alarms.

Clause 5.3.1 requires:

• The power-supply visual indicator to be green.
• For battery-powered CO alarms, the indicator to flash at least once per minute.

The MSC-1 green standby LED therefore also serves as the normal power-supply visual indicator and cannot be permanently disabled by the user.
What battery does MSC-1 use, and how often does it need to be replaced?

MSC-1 uses a user-replaceable CR123A 3V lithium battery.

The replaceable CR123A battery typically lasts approximately two to three years.

Actual battery life may vary depending on:

• Thread network conditions
• Network reconnection frequency
• Smart home communication frequency
• Alarm and self-test frequency
• Ambient temperature
• Battery quality

Replace the CR123A battery promptly when a low-battery warning appears to help maintain normal smoke detection, CO detection, and smart connectivity.
Can MSC-1 be used outside Europe?

MSC-1 may technically operate outside Europe, but whether it can be used as a legally required smoke and carbon monoxide alarm depends on local regulations and certification requirements.

The current European version of MSC-1 is primarily certified according to:

• EN 14604 for smoke alarm functionality
• EN 50291-1 for carbon monoxide alarm functionality

Before using MSC-1 outside Europe, please check:

• Local smoke alarm standards
• Local carbon monoxide alarm standards
• Mandatory certification or listing requirements
• Building-code requirements
• Landlord or property-management requirements
• Insurance requirements
• Fire-safety or inspection requirements

For example, some applications in the United States may require UL 217 and UL 2034 certifications. The current European version of MSC-1 should not be considered a UL 217- or UL 2034-listed product.
