Hello, Sensereo MS-1

Reliable Smoke Detection with Infrared Scattering Technology

Sensereo MS-1 is a smart smoke alarm based on advanced IoT technology, providing innovative solutions for smart home smoke detector systems. Designed for modern households, it combines precision detection with seamless integration into the next generation of connected ecosystems.

*Works with Apple Home via Thread: Requires a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub such as HomePod or Apple TV running the latest software. A compatible Thread border router is also required when using HomePod (1st generation), Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) Wi-Fi, Apple TV 4K (1st generation), Apple TV HD, or Apple TV (4th generation).

Communication Protocol
Fully supports Matter protocol, easily integrated into the smart home ecosystem.
The MS-1 fully supports the Matter protocol, allowing for easy integration into your smart home environment. As a Matter compatible smoke detector, it connects effortlessly with other Matter compatible devices, such as smart thermostats, lighting systems, and security hubs.
Matter over Thread is a cutting-edge smart home technology that combines the Matter protocol’s interoperability with the efficiency of Thread networking. It ensures seamless compatibility across different brands and ecosystems, while Thread’s low-power, low-latency, and self-healing mesh network enhances device stability and reliability.
This makes the MS-1 one of the most reliable Matter over Thread devices, ideal for battery-powered, always-on monitoring. The robust encryption and energy-efficient design also ensure secure data transmission across your smart home, making the MS-1 a future-ready Matter enabled smoke detector.
Detection Technology
Reliable smoke detection with Infrared scattering technology
Our photoelectric smoke detector employs advanced infrared light scattering technology for precise and reliable smoke detection. The system features an infrared emitting diode as the light source, housed in a specially designed dark chamber with a maze-like structure to minimize external light interference. Positioned at an angle within the chamber is an infrared receiving diode, calibrated to detect minimal signals in smoke-free environments.
This type of sensor offers increased sensitivity to slow, smoldering fires while reducing false alarms, making it ideal for home use. As a smart smoke detector, it ensures that detection is both fast and accurate—essential for preventing fire-related hazards in connected homes.
Combined with its Matter thread smoke detector capabilities, the MS-1 delivers smart alerts, real-time responsiveness, and enhanced automation potential when paired with other Matter-compatible devices in your ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why not ionization sensor?

We decided against using an ionization sensor primarily due to environmental concerns. Ionization sensors often contain radioactive materials, which pose disposal challenges and are increasingly restricted in various regions. By using a photoelectric sensor, we ensure both strong performance in detecting smoldering fires and a more eco-friendly product.

  • What is a Matter smoke detector?

A Matter smoke detector is a smart device that supports the Matter protocol—a universal smart home standard. It ensures compatibility across multiple platforms like Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa. The Sensereo MS-1 is a Matter-enabled smoke detector that works seamlessly within any Matter-compliant ecosystem.

  • What are the benefits of a Matter over Thread smoke detector?

Matter over Thread combines the interoperability of Matter with the low-latency, energy-efficient mesh networking of Thread. This ensures faster alerts, longer battery life, and more reliable connectivity—especially in large or multi-room homes. The Sensereo MS-1 uses this technology for enhanced smart home integration.

  • Does the Sensereo MS-1 smart smoke detector work without Wi-Fi?

Yes — the MS-1 functions as a standalone smoke detector even without Wi-Fi. It will still detect smoke and sound a loud local alarm to alert you of danger.

For smart features like app notifications and automation, MS-1 connects via Thread, not Wi-Fi. However, your Thread Border Router (TBR) or smart home hub (e.g., Apple HomePod mini, Google Nest Hub, or Home Assistant with ZBT-1) does require Wi-Fi or Ethernet to bridge the Thread network to your home system or the internet.

So while MS-1 itself does not need Wi-Fi, your hub or TBR needs it to enable full smart home functionality.

  • Is Sensereo MS-1 compatible with Apple Home or Google Home?

Yes, the Sensereo MS-1 is compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant, as long as there is a Matter-compatible Thread Border Router (TBR) present.

It works seamlessly with Apple Home, supporting smoke alerts, battery status, and automations. Samsung SmartThings also supports MS-1 via its Thread-enabled hubs (e.g., SmartThings Station or Aeotec Hub), showing the smoke alarm properly in the app UI and allowing automations.
Home Assistant offers excellent integration with MS-1 through Matter over Thread, especially when using border routers like SkyConnect or ZBT-1. The MS-1 can be fully controlled, and sensor states can trigger other automations. We're also working with the Home Assistant team to apply for the official “Works with Home Assistant” badge.

Please note: Google Home currently does not display smoke alarms correctly in its app UI, though pairing is technically possible. We're monitoring progress as Google expands Matter support.

  • Are matter smoke detector MS-1 connected to the power source and using the battery as backup?

As of July 2025, all current Sensereo detectors are battery-powered and do not require wiring. Our MS-1 smoke alarm, for example, uses a dual-battery system: a built-in 7-year battery for core smoke detection and a replaceable CR123A battery (2–3 years lifespan) for powering the Matter over Thread communication module. This ensures continued core safety functionality even if the communication battery runs out.

  • Do you have any manuals to connect with different home hubs?

The pairing process is essentially the same across all Matter-compatible hubs — users can add the MS-1 device by scanning the QR code through the respective hub’s app (e.g., Apple Home, Home Assistant, SmartThings). If you encounter any issues, please visit our support page at www.sensereo.com/contact-us, or reach out to us at [email protected]. We're happy to assist.

  • Do all smoke detectors communicate with each other?

Currently, our MS-1 devices do not support direct interlinked alarms (i.e., one alarm triggering all others). Each device reports individually to the connected smart home system (e.g., HomeKit), and you can create automation within the smart home platform to trigger additional actions, such as activating other types of smart devices or sending notifications. Native inter-device alarm linking is under development for future product releases.

  • Do the devices have proper USA certifications or UL listed?

The current MS-1 smoke alarm is certified under EN 14604 and CE standards for European markets. We are also actively developing a new model that meets UL 217 standards for the U.S. market, and will share updates once the certification process progresses.
