    MS-1 uses Matter-over-Thread and is designed to work with compatible smart home ecosystems that support the Matter smoke alarm device type. It is not limited to the platforms shown in the “Works with” section.

    Common compatible ecosystems include:

    A compatible Matter Controller with Thread Border Router functionality is required for smart features.

    If your smart home ecosystems support Matter Multi-Admin, MS-1 may also be shared with more than one compatible ecosystem.

    Please note that available features may vary between platforms. Notifications, self-test controls, device status, event history, and automation options may be displayed or supported differently depending on the ecosystem.

  • Will MS-1 still work without Wi-Fi or internet access?

    Yes.

    MS-1’s core smoke detection and local audible and visual alarms do not depend on Wi-Fi or internet access.

    MS-1 communicates through Thread rather than connecting directly to Wi-Fi. A Matter Controller or Thread Border Router may use Wi-Fi or Ethernet to communicate with your smart home platform.

    Therefore, if your internet connection is unavailable:

    • Smoke detection will continue to operate.
    • The local buzzer and LED alarm will continue to operate.

    Remote app notifications, remote status information, and other smart features may be affected depending on your smart home ecosystem and local network configuration.

  • What batteries does MS-1 use, and will smoke detection still work if the CR123A battery runs out?

    MS-1 uses a dual-battery design:

    • A built-in, non-replaceable battery powers the core smoke detection and local alarm functions.
    • A user-replaceable CR123A 3V battery powers the Matter-over-Thread communication module.

    The replaceable CR123A battery typically lasts approximately two to three years.

    Actual battery life may vary depending on Thread network conditions, network reconnections, testing frequency, ambient temperature, battery quality, and other operating conditions.

    If the CR123A battery is depleted, Matter connectivity, app notifications, and other connected features may become temporarily unavailable. However, core smoke detection and the local alarm will continue to operate using the built-in, non-replaceable battery.

    Replace the CR123A battery promptly when a low-battery warning appears.

  • Can I silence MS-1 remotely through an app?

    No.

    MS-1 does not support remote alarm silencing through a smart home app.

    Under EN 14604, the alarm silence function is intended to be initiated using a manual control on the smoke alarm itself. For this reason, the MS-1 Hush function is operated locally using the Test/Hush button rather than remotely through an app.

    Only use the Hush function after confirming that there is no actual fire risk.

    During Hush Mode, the buzzer is temporarily silenced while the device continues to monitor for smoke.

  • Can I trigger an MS-1 self-test remotely?

    Yes, if your smart home ecosystem supports remote self-test for Matter smoke alarms.

    If the ecosystem provides a Self-Test control, you can trigger the MS-1 self-test remotely through the corresponding smart home app or platform.

    Support varies by ecosystem:

    • Some platforms may provide a remote Self-Test button.
    • Some may only display test events or device status.
    • Some may not currently provide a self-test control.

    The physical Test/Hush button on the device can always be used for a local manual self-test.

  • Why does the MS-1 standby LED flash every 45 seconds, and can I turn it off?

    During normal standby operation, the front red LED flashes approximately once every 45 seconds to indicate that the alarm is operating normally.

    The standby LED on the current MS-1 cannot be disabled by the user.

    This standby indication is part of the current MS-1 product design.

    Unlike battery-powered carbon monoxide alarms covered by EN 50291-1, EN 14604:2005 does not specifically require a battery-powered smoke alarm to flash a standby indicator at least once per minute. EN 14604 Clause 4.3 applies the continuous mains-on indicator requirement to smoke alarms intended to be connected to AC mains.

    Therefore, the MS-1 standby LED should not be described as a specific EN 14604 requirement for battery-powered smoke alarms.

  • Can MS-1 be used outside Europe?

    MS-1 may technically operate outside Europe, but whether it can be used as a legally required smoke alarm depends on the regulations and certification requirements of the destination country or region.

    The current European version of MS-1 is primarily certified according to EN 14604.

    Before using MS-1 outside Europe, please check:

    • Local smoke alarm standards
    • Mandatory certification or listing requirements
    • Building-code requirements
    • Landlord or property-management requirements
    • Insurance requirements
    • Fire-safety inspection requirements

    For example, some locations, buildings, or insurance providers in the United States may require UL 217 certification. The current European version of MS-1 should not be considered a UL 217-listed product.

    Technical operation does not automatically mean that the product satisfies local regulatory, insurance, or inspection requirements.
